Frequently Asked Questions

How do I prepare for Vinyl Decking?
  • Minimum 5/8" SELECT or G1S grade T&G fir plywood. Please ensure that the plywood and workmanship is of the same high standard as subfloors for linoleum.
  • Glue and screw plywood (countersink screws). Space screws 4" on joints, 8" elsewhere.
  • Install joists with crown up and slope deck minimum of 1" on 8'. This will reduce the likelihood of puddles and ensure proper drainage.
  • All plywood joints between joists must be T&G or have blocking for support.
  • Door jams must be a minimum of 2" above the deck surface for proper waterproofing.
  • It is preferred for the vinyl to be installed BEFORE stucco wire or siding. This allows the vinyl to be brought higher up the wall creating a better water seal. Any wall finishes (stucco stops, siding J channels) installed before vinyl must be a minimum of 2" from deck surface.
  • DECK-IT-OUT will NOT install vinyl over pressure treated plywood, OSB board, or dimensional lumber.
  •
  • Minimum temperature is 10 degrees Celsius for 24 hour period. Unable to install during wet or rainy conditions.
  • Your cooperation in assisting DECK-IT-OUT with the above procedures will help ensure a problem free sundeck for years to come.

How Is It Installed?
Vinyl Membrane is adhered to most smooth substrates using either a contact or a latex adhesive and is overlapped and heat welded at all seams. The vinyl is then mechanically fastened at all perimeters ensuring a total waterproofing system is achieved.

How Long Will It Last?
A Vinyl Membrane Deck surface could last up to 15-25 years depending upon the application, exposure and care of the deck.

Is There A Warranty?
All Vinyl Membrane products are covered by either a 10 or 15 Year Limited Manufacturer's Warranty, depending upon the specific product chosen. Deck-it-Out offers a 1 year Warranty on workmanship and installation.

Is Vinyl Membrane Slip Resistant?
The embossment on the membrane is created to provide better resistance to slippery conditions, however like any other decking product; Vinyl can still be slippery when wet or snow/frost covered. It is the responsibility of the owner to maintain their deck in safe condition.

Is Vinyl Environmentally Green?
The answer is YES. When compared to pressure treated wood, there are no chemicals leaching into the environment and likely triple the life expectancy. PVC’s one-step application and longevity compare favorably to the multiple application and reapplication requirements of liquid-applied systems, saving many trips to the job, which in turn consumes energy.  As a waterproof deck, compared to alternatives is the GREENER CHOICE!

How Much Does Vinyl Cost?
Depending on the product, style you choose from.
